Office of the Provincial Advisor

Welcome to the Office of the Provincial Advisor for Supported Child Development.  This full-time community-based position provides provincial coordination for SCD Programs in British Columbia.  The Ministry of Children and Family Development (MCFD) funds the position through its Early Childhood Development Branch.

There are several key areas of responsibility with this position.  Support, training, provincial coordination and consultation to families, service providers and communities are principal responsibilities.

The work of the Office of the Provincial Advisor is guided by the Provincial Steering Committee (PSC).  Please click here for the Committee's Terms of Reference, its membership list and minutes of its meetings.

Tanya Brown is the new Provincial Advisor for Supported Child Development. She comes to this position with over 13 years of experience working with children who require additional support and their families in North Vancouver. Tanya began her career in ECE as a Support Worker for children with special needs in an inclusive child care program.

In 1999 Tanya joined the Supported Child Care team in North Vancouver as a Consultant eventually fulfilling the responsibilities of the Coordinator during times of transition. Recently, Tanya was the Aboriginal Supported Child Development Coordinator for the Vancouver Coastal Region supporting Aboriginal communities to build ASCD programs and resources.

As Provincial Advisor, Tanya represents SCDP at a variety of provincial level committees and tables.  Tanya is a member of the SCDP/IDP Consortium which continues to develop certificate and diploma programs for SCDP and IDP professionals through post-secondary institutions.  Tanya attends the Infant Development Program (IDP) Provincial Steering Committee meetings to establish stronger links with IDP and to observe first-hand how the IDP Provincial Steering Committee operates.  Strong links with Aboriginal IDP through the Office of the Provincial Advisor for AIDP have been established as well as links to the Provincial Coordinator for Paediatric Therapists.

Tanya looks forward to an opportunity to build relationships with SCD and ASCD programs across the province. Sandi McDonald Administrative Assistant supports her from the office of Provincial Advisor in Courtney at the Comox Valley Child Development Center. Tanya has also established a satellite office in her home community of North Vancouver and will work out of both offices.

Please feel free to contact Tanya or Sandi at any time.  Your questions, feedback and suggestions regarding SCDP are very welcome.
